Hi Jon -
Thanks for your feedback. Are you talking about
the link from page 1, the table of
contents, to the article on ''Money
Savvy''? .......... the entire truth is, I personally have not placed any
unexpected popups on any of these pages in the newsletter. If you are into the
Page 2,
and click on the link for the Money
Savvy article, yes, that page pops off of the main newsletter page, and that
is my doing, as I "lift" all of the articles off the page.
The popups that happen, however, from these
offsite web pages, I have no control over how many popups they use.
In all of the Waybill site, there is the ONE
popup when people enter the site, about subscribing. That is all. Period. Except
for one related popup off of the FreeStuff page.
But, after years of studying this, in interface
design, my techniques of 'lifting' a page off of the main page, is NOT the
irritating popup syndrome. It is simply opening a page in a different window, so
the reader does not 'lose' the home page, below.
I have experimented with a couple popups from
some of my resources, and none of them have lasted more than a few days before I
took them down. I simply do not like this technique, any more than you do.
Because of my heavy travel on the Internet, I am willing to wager I yell (yes
outloud) more about this than you do ;-))
The other thing I might suggest is to ponder what
you have placed on your PC. For a while, I had the software "HotBar" on my
machine, and BOY did the popups start happening BIG TIME. Come to find out, this
is a "spyware" or "adware" and the entire purpose of the software is to not only
generate advertising, but also to track YOU and your Net habits. I ripped it off
the machine!
But, interestingly, these popups are generated by
the keywords that their robots "find" in the coding of your page. And I am
assuming, since my coding and keywords are highly effective, that is what was
generating so many popups. So, backwardsly, it was a beneficial comment on how
well my own pages are done. Those robots think I am highly successful and
money-laden, I guess..........
(My view: success, yes, as that is heart and
soul......... money-laden? NOPE. Not yet, but the goal is there
:-)))
So, as for your query on the popups being
generated by me, pursuing "clicks" or whatever ... nope. I
don't operate that way. If you peruse the E-BOOK on the Money Savvy article,
yes, I highly recommend that. I will never place anything on the Waybill site
that I haven't purchased, tried and tested...... this is an excellent book. BUT.
That doesn't mean I agree with their sales methods or the popups. (Which, by the
way, on most of these E-Book sites, it has nothing to do with payment by clicks
.... I represent this company and this book, and any proceeds are directly tied
to a sale of a book, not on clicks.)
I do know this is becoming a HUGE problem on the
Net. There are many free software out there, to TAME THE POPUPS. Start with www.CNET.com or www.ZDNET.com .... both have free and shareware
available.
I certainly don't want to lose you as a reader.
If you have any more concerns, please write.
But, rest assured that the sequence of popups you
encountered had nothing to do with my own coding of the newsletter. (Any requests from readers,
to view my coding
for a good purpose, are honored upon request.... I spend much time "hiding" my
coding with javascript and dHTML, because there are a TON of sneaks and thieves
on the Net, and my work is VERY GOOD.)
Again, thanks for your input,
Leanne Boyd

Subject: you have a
trouble maker..
I enjoy your newsletter, however, when I clicked on the
link for 030603/2.html#moneysavvy so many pages open that after clicking for 5
minutes I had to shut my computer down and reboot. Someone's getting pd
for hits I suppose. Hmmm. I really didn't care for. This kinda stuff really
turns a reader off.....Thanks for your consideration.
